Through her style and beauty, Audrey Hepburn was one of the most representative images of the 20th century. Through her classic look, she gained the admiration of women all over the world. Now, in the modern era, Audrey Hepburn’s style continues to inspire the world of fashion. On the 4th of May, she would have been 92. So, it is a good reason to remember that Audrey Hepburn is more than a fashion icon.

The Hepburn – Givenchy collaboration

In short terms, the relationship between them was one of fashion synergy. For the designer, Audrey was “an enchantress, inspiring love and beauty, and fairies never quite disappear altogether”. While she said about him that he represents “more than a designer; he is a creator of personality”.

They first met during the filming of “Sabrina” in 1953. Audrey Hepburn was the main character and Givenchy was named to design the clothes for the film. At first, they were not impressed by each other. But in time, they developed a beautiful friendship and collaboration. After that movie, Audrey remained an ambassador for the brand off-screen. Therefore, the designer continued to create looks for the actress. At her wedding with Andrea Dotti in 1969, Givenchy created especially for her the ballet slipper pink funnel neck dress. Also, her little black dress from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” was designed by Givenchy and represents, without doubt, the most famous dress in history.

Simple and classy, her style was beyond compare. She always avoided cliches and every look she wore was a challenge. The ingredients of her look that can be found in everyone’s wardrobe are cigarette pants, a little black dress, trench coats, ballet flats, and headscarves. She always completed her outfits with a headscarf both on and off-screen. This accessory immediately became one of the most glamorous style tricks. In the movie “Charade” from 1963, she wore such a headscarf accompanied by leather gloves and dark glasses. 

Nevertheless, the black polo neck became also a piece we still find in our wardrobe with regularity. 

Other remarkable outfits of Audrey were: cigarette pants and ballet flats. This look is inspired by her lifetime passion, ballet. 

She impacted the fashion world through her impeccable style and unique image which was very different from the style of those years. She easily became one of those rare persons who deserved the status of “ fashion icon”. 

Besides the mark she left in fashion, she was a charity supporter who left a positive change in the world. After she retired from Hollywood, Hepburn worked with UNICEF and was the charity’s first Goodwill Ambassador. Her conviction was that no child should live in suffering and fought a long period of her life against child abuse. 

In conclusion, Audrey Hepburn is more than a fashion icon since she made so many good changes in the world and was also one of the best actresses of all time. She changed the mentalities and lives of people worldwide.
